Although Napa Valley is synonymous with high quality wine, surprisingly only four percent of California's total wine production comes from this area. Wine making has been a strong tradition in the Valley since the 1800's, but it wasn't until the Paris Wine Tasting of 1976 that Napa firmly established its position as one of the leading wine producers in the world. At the Paris-based blind tasting, Napa's wines won both the red and white competition, beating out the best wines in France. Today, Napa is home to over 600 wineries which attract over 5 million tourists annually. Napa is particularly known for its production of unmatchable Cabernet Sauvignons.
