I looove Cakebread wines, but the service and the atmosphere here are lacking. I found it to be too crowded, and the staff wasn't the friendliest. I buy their wine in the store, but the crowd and the attitude at the winery aren't worth stopping for.

I've always really liked Cakebread wines. The tour gives you good exposure to different viewpoints around the winery as the tastings are done in multiple locations which is great. Tour guide was very knowledgeable; however, the overall experience seemed a bit too corporate...they obviously do these tours often! Relatively easy process to set up a tasting which helped, particularly when you try and fit in numerous tastings during the day. Glad we went but will be trying other wineries in the future before making a repeat visit.

The winery is nice but the pours are light and often the staff is a bit off putting. But I would recommend tasting because their Cabernet and their Sauvignon Blanc are purchase worthy, and their Chardonnay can also be very good if not spectacular. I prefer my winery staff heavy on the pours, conversation, and knowledge of their industry which is why I find the service here lacking.

I?d always liked their Cabernet wine in tastings and was looking forward to trying their other offerings. We were not to be disappointed. After a short tour we were led to a comfortable tasting room with our guide who talked us professionally through the wines. They were certainly excellent. Best of the bunch was the 04 Cabernet and the Sauvignon Blanc.
The 04 Cabernet is classic deep USA Cabernet with great black fruits (blackberries, ripe cherries and a hint of leather). The beautiful light Sauvignon was classic gooseberries and straw with a hint of old world mineral after taste which was really very refreshing and light. The only black mark I had to note about the Cakebread experience was the poor retail area which I hope was a temporary setup. It reminded me of a garage sale area!

Cakebread has some very decent wines and they are conveniently located on Hwy 29. However, since they are well known they can get crowded (do book an appointment) and touristy. So, you might have some people in your tasting that don't know the difference between Chardonnay and Sav Blanc. The tastings are a bit pricey, and you get very meager pours. But, they do have a very beautiful winery so it is worth going to. Once.

I think that Cakebread is one of the nicest looking wineries in Napa. No spectacular views or anything but really nice grounds and really well maintained buildings. In general, I think that their wine is good but a little pricey. On my visit, I really enjoyed the Sauvignon Blanc and Cab. I was surprised since Sauv Blanc is usually not my favorite varietal. Service was good and $10 for a tasting is not bad value in Napa these days. Not sure that I will be back but I had a good experience there.
