When debating Napa, Sonoma, Healdsburg, etc for a day of wine tasting, there are a few places that go on the "pro" list for each area, every time. For me, Hop Kiln is FOR SURE a reason to go to Healdsburg.
Yes, the grounds are beautiful, the wine is good, the tasting is cheap, but the real reason to check it out... THE SNACKS! I stock up on mustard (the curry mustard is redic) and their famous hot sauce is always a crowd pleaser.
The picnic grounds are great for enjoying your lunch with a newly purchased bottle of wine.
I would say to skip this spot if there's a passport weekend going on. The giant tasting room is less than intimate and gets super loud and crowded.

Thousand Flowers (a white blend) is by far above and the best on the loved-by-all that Hop Kiln makes. Certainly I can buy a bottle of the Pinot or the Gewurztraminer but it doesn't satisfy a whole crowd like the Thousand Flowers blend does.
The grounds are nice and comfortable for a picnic, and if in the area and plan to stop with your bites to eat and wine, try to make this your last stop.
The service is always friendly and the facility is somewhat rustic with a manicured feel.
The grounds and building were just redesigned and built in 2005 or so.
I love the custom blend mustards they sell here. My favorites include the zin/garlic, the horseradish, and any of them based on strong pepper flavor. Since the dominating trait seems to be sweetness, I add them to sauces and make them into salad dressing. Kids like the milder flavors on sandwiches and they go well with savory meats.

Historic spot along the Westside road. Change of ownership has caused the service to be a little more generic, but the site is beautiful and authentic and the picnic area is lovely - tables around a small duck pond. Grab a bottle and relax at this quiet spot.
