Here's the low down since I recently re-evaluated Wine club memberships.
Sterling wines are about a 3. Some of their reserves warrant a 4.

Sterling vineyards is a must visit if you're a first timer to Napa. It tends to draw a lot of tourists but that's for a reason. It can feel a bit like a factory at times but they need to move a lot of people up the tram and through the tour. Sterling is known for Merlot so make sure you give it taste.

Atmosphere is tough to beat...big fan of the funicular and the views you get of the surrounding areas. Tour also moves you well throughout the entire winery which is great. Service there is NOT good. Each tasting station has someone who seems to have been working their forever (can be good if they still show some excitement in their job) and the entire event is geared towards getting you to buy bottles at the end...or to sign up for their wine club. Subtlety is not their strong suit.

Sterling has the most beautiful view and winery in the valley in my opinion. The library wines are good, but their mainstream wines are really not that great overall in my opinion. Their Sauvignon Blanc is always good but their reds can be a little rough for the lower end wines. The service is very buttoned up and they don't really have the time to give any personal service with how many people come through. The self tour is really a must do though and is well worth the tram ticket up the hill. My favorite part is seeing the different toast options for the barrels.
